Getting creative with photography

Hi there, I recently had a burst of creativity and inspiration at the end of summer. I wanted to come up with some kind of a dreamy, feminine, kind of bold idea using flowers and water but I wasn’t interested in your typical bright sunny images. I had something else in mind.

When I’m truly feeling creative like this I like to get my notebook and do a brain dump. You know when you sit uninterrupted for a small period of time and jot your ideas and thoughts down as they come to mind. Yes, that’s what I do.

I wrote down: water, flowers, summer, bold, dreamy, feminine, girl model, shadows, moody, black backdrop…

The list keeps going but this is the part that struck my cord of creativity: milk bath.

Here’s how I set up…

I ended up setting up a kids pool, draped a long black fabric backdrop over to cover the pool sides. Filled the pool with water, later adding the powdered milk for the cloudy effect. I cut the flower stems off, leaving only the flower heads to float in the pool. The girls then took turns in the pool of flowers.

Here’s what the results of what my creativity led me too…..

Yes their dramatic, but I love that about them. These images also have a feeling of innocence and femininity.

Never be afraid to experiment with your craft. This is exactly what I wanted from my end of summer photoshoot. It happened to work out that my models are my two beautiful daughters, they are usually up for getting creative with me.
